Arusha - Mount Kilimanjaro

About This Tour

The Northern Circuit Route is Kilimanjaro’s longest, most scenic, less crowded, and best-acclimatizing trail, offering an unparallel 360-degree journey around the mountain. Beginning on the western slopes via the Lemosho trailhead, the route crosses the vast Shira Plateau before curving toward the quiet and remote northern flank, far from the busy southern routes. This extended and carefully crafted itinerary provides the most gradual ascent profile on the mountain, significantly increasing summit success rates.

Climbers experience diverse ecological zones, from lush montane forests and heather landscapes to the stark alpine desert and icy arctic summit zone. The northern side rewards climbers with panoramic views across the Kenyan plains, pristine wilderness, and fewer crowds, creating a serene and immersive mountain experience.

The route converges at School Hut for the final summit push to UHURU PEAK (5,895m / 19,341ft) via Gillman’s Point, before descending along the Mweka Route through the thriving rainforest.

DAY 1: Arrival in Tanzania & Transfer to Arusha

Upon arrival in Tanzania at Kilimanjaro International Airport, you will be warmly welcoming by your mountain guides or safari representative and transferred by road to the lively safari town of Arusha. The driver offers a gentle introduction to Tanzania’s beautiful scenery, passing local communities, open countryside, and, on clear days, lovely views of Mount Meru in the distance.

After checking in at your hotel or lodge, you will have time to relax and freshen up before an important pre-trek briefing. Later in the day, your professional mountain guide will conduct a detailed gear checking session to make sure you have all the necessary equipment for the Kilimanjaro climb. This includes reviewing your clothing layers, sleeping bag, boots, rain protection, and other essentials. If anything is missing or unsuitable, the guide will advise on rental or purchase options in Arusha. The evening is then free to enjoy dinner, organize your daypack, and get a good night’s rest as you prepare for the exciting Northern Circuit Route adventure ahead.
